Role-playing Guidelines,
Maturity: Ego and idiocy will not be accepted here. Instant ban. I don't need you if you are categorized under any of the titles listed. This isn't a website about flexing and talking shit.
Metagaming (or Cross Role-Play): It's a sensitive topic. Very often the topic is made black and white, but inevitably, it's an issue riddled with gray. Using out of character knowledge, decisions, or deals to benefit your character is impossible to avoid. There are all sorts of tactful ways to package and disguise it, but in the end, it's inevitably an issue. And it's an issue we take very seriously at Aethera. We are players, we play multiple characters in multiple settings, not always in completely harmony with one another. We all have personal goals that go beyond our characters as well, and these interests will always bleed some into the decisions we make.
However, this does not make it okay. Explicitly forced actions, unsuitable to the circumstances, designed to benefit oneself from the Out of Character point of view will likely call for intervention on part of the staff. If we feel that something happens that shouldn't happen, votes will be taken by the Regulators and, if approved, will be treated as though they never happened.
If you aren't sure, contact someone to make sure your decisions are well-motivated.
Respect: I'm not asking you to respect anyone you may not like or grow to like, but you will respect me and my forum. Hold your tongue should you have something bad to say about anyone, keep the trash off my forum, act like grown ups or young adults. Some of you may be preteens, but that doesn't give you a hall pass. I really don't need the bullshit.
Expectations: First, I expect you, as a player, to go through a phase called: growth and development. You will learn and no doubt become a better writer and role-player here at Aethera.
Second, I expect you all to give it 110% when you're role-playing. Three sentence posts will not be tolerated, I don't care if there wasn't anything to write about. If you're not at all a decent writer, make an effort to improve, to become a better writer, otherwise you can expect to be excluded from threads. Everyone goes through a growth and developmental stage as roleplayers in a environment such as. There will be no exceptions.
Free-form within reason is our philosophy when it comes to the package here at Aethera State. We have created this setting. Within any existing world or storyline anything is virtually possible. Outside of said specifically limited storylines rationality is exercised. Anything is possible, but anything downright outrageous will be dealt with accordingly. Follow these rules? Adhere to the setting, and you can basically make any character you possibly want, as simple or as late-game as you choose.
Death is a reality in a story line like this. It is very possible, maybe even very likely, that your character will die at some point over the course of their existence. Death, however, is not the end to your membership and progress. In the event of death here, it doesn't take much to pick up, develop, and integrate a new character precisely where you left off. Just be reasonable.
Posting: You are free to post in as many threads at one time as you would like. This is to keep people active and entertained. On a forum it's very common for people to go missing a few days, and in many instances missions can drag out over a pretty long period of time. This is our attempt to accommodate such an inconvenience.
We treat chronology of threads in the order that they were started, unless otherwise specified in the first post of the thread. Keep in mind that threads started first, and anything that happens therein, regardless of specified chronology, supersede any later threads.
However, the general rule across Aethera State is that if not stated, a 72-hour posting rule is in-effect. When it becomes your turn to post you have seventy-two hours maximum to post in said thread without warning With a warning an additional 24 hour extension can be granted. Otherwise your character faces being pushed out of the storyline or manipulated to keep the progress rolling.
Logical Turn-Based Combat is the system we adhere to to dictate actions. Some of you might know it similarly T1 or T1 Eden (modified). But it's essentially the same thing. Logic, set to the circumstances of the setting and forum, dictate what happens and how things go down. The next guide breaks down just what LTB is and means.
Open, Closed, & Private Threads: Any threads labeled Open, Closed, or Private need to be adhered to as such. This is a forum that respects the players and how they feel regarding their storylines, however fragile they may be. However, be prepared for unexpected interactions when making Open threads. Furthermore, Open threads will be rewarded by a system implemented later game exclusively for the forum.
Canon Exclusives: Forcin' hits, capture, or negative effects on other characters is a timeless no-no. But there are a handful of situations that you should be completely aware of on this forum where we may okay it or even sanction it. These actions are only the minimum necessary to serve their purpose, and may only be authorized by Regulators (the highest ranked Admin staff).
We will never just drop these actions. For the most part, majority of the forum has nothing to fear regarding this matter. However, if your character ever obtains an exclusive, highly sought after canon trait or item, you are automatically assumed to agree to these terms were they to apply. For example, my character obtaining a rare weapon in a storyline by another character, that limits the storyline from being completed, especially if in a battle. This'll be outlined more later in the event that it actually becomes an issue.
